The café attached to LA Chapter in the Ace Hotel is one of the few places one can get Stumptown Coffee in Los Angeles. The baristas are always rad, and the music is always on point. One of the best parts about this location is that you almost always run into somebody you know.
The Casbah Café has some of the strongest coffee in Silver Lake. It has a pretty awesome selection of tea and food, also. The vibe is less pretentious than Intelligentsia down the street, and it's open way later.
Self Edge has the best selection of selvedge denim in Los Angeles. They carry a handful of Japanese premium denim brands as well as a select few American brands. If you aren't looking for denim they also have a pretty solid selection of leather goods.
Oddly enough, both of my shopping choices in Los Angeles are San Francisco transplants. Todd Barket, the owner of Unionmade, really knows what he is doing when it comes to menswear. If you aren't looking for clothes there is still a crazy good selection of books, bags, accessories, and more.
The tacos at Malo are the best thing ever. They also have really good salsa. The menu is constantly changing so don't go back thinking you will get the same thing you ordered last time, but if you happen to stumble in and the BLT taco is on the menu go ahead and get four. Also, if you're into drinking they have a ton of tequila.
This place is the real deal. It's been on Sunset since 1961 and there are only two employees, Mike Sr. and Mike Jr. If you're into drinks with umbrellas in them you won't be disappointed. Order a "Blood and Sand" and see what happens. Oh yeah, cash only.
If you are going to see a movie in Los Angeles, you might as well go to the best movie theater in Los Angeles. Get to the ArcLight early and spend the day shopping for music at Amoeba, or window shopping at the Urban Outfitter's owned Space 15 Twenty.
